Product overview

One solenoid, two functions. Pick by your actuator.

A solenoid valve for pneumatic actuators is the pilot valve that turns an electrical signal into actuator movement. It bolts directly onto the top of a quarter-turn pneumatic actuator through the NAMUR interface: the actuator carries the standard bolt pattern and the two air ports machined into its body, so the solenoid sits flat on it with no fittings and no tubing in between. Every pneumatic actuator we make has a NAMUR interface, and so do most rack-and-pinion actuators from other makers, which is why one solenoid covers both our own packages and retrofits.

The 4V310-08B comes in two functions, and the choice depends only on your actuator. A double acting actuator has two air ports and both need feeding, so it takes the 5/2 way valve, which pressurises one side while venting the other. A spring return actuator takes air on one port and lets the spring do the return stroke, so it takes the 3/2 way valve. This is the most common ordering mistake in pneumatic valve packages; if you are not sure which actuator you have, send us the model and we will tell you which function it needs.

The air connection is G1/4 and the supply pressure is 4 to 8 bar, the same range as our pneumatic actuators. The coil is available in 24V DC, 110V AC or 220V AC and is rated IP67: dust tight, and able to survive temporary immersion, which is the rating you want on any solenoid mounted outside a control cabinet. A manual override lets you cycle the valve by hand during commissioning, testing, or a power cut.

You can order the solenoid on its own to fit an actuator you already have, or as part of a complete package. When it ships with one of our pneumatic ball valves, the valve, the actuator and the solenoid are assembled and tested together before they leave, so there is nothing to match up on site.

Applications

Where it gets used

Automated ball and butterfly valve packages — the standard pilot valve on quarter-turn actuators. Mounted on the actuator, it takes the PLC output and drives the valve open or shut.Retrofit on existing NAMUR actuators — adds electrical control to an actuator already in the line, including ones you did not buy from us, with no extra tubing.Wash-down and hygienic areas — the IP67 coil keeps working through hose-down cleaning and wet floors, where a cabinet-rated coil would not.Process plants: oil and gas, chemical, power — valve automation where the solenoid lives outdoors or in the process area rather than in a control room.Water treatment — automated isolation and diverting valves across treatment trains, switched from the plant controller.

FAQ
Do I need a 5/2 or a 3/2 solenoid valve?

5/2 for a double acting actuator, because both air ports have to be fed. 3/2 for a spring return actuator, because only one port takes air and the spring does the return stroke. If you are not sure which actuator you have, send us the model and we will tell you.

Will it fit an actuator I already have?

If the actuator has a NAMUR interface on top, yes. It bolts straight on with no adapter and no tubing, including actuators you did not buy from us.

What air pressure and connection does it use?

Supply pressure 4 to 8 bar, the same as our pneumatic actuators. The air connection is G1/4.

What does IP67 mean on the coil?

The coil housing is dust tight and survives temporary immersion in water. It is the rating for wash-down areas, outdoor skids and anywhere the solenoid is not inside a control cabinet.

Is there a manual override?

Yes. You can cycle the valve by hand during commissioning, testing, or a power cut.
