Y strainer with drain valve
Same cast 316 body as our standard Y strainer, with a quarter-turn ball valve on the drain port in place of the blow-off plug. Open it, line pressure clears the screen, close it — no wrench, no shutdown.
Open it, and the line does the cleaning.
This is the standard Y strainer with one change: the plug at the bottom of the screen leg is replaced by a small quarter-turn ball valve.
The difference shows up in maintenance. With a plug you need a wrench, and on a live line you first have to isolate and drain. With the blowdown valve you open it for a moment — line pressure pushes the collected debris straight out through the drain — then close it and filtration carries on. No tools, no isolation, no shutdown.
Everything else is the same as the standard build. Body, bonnet and blowdown valve are ASTM A351 CF8M, the cast form of 316. Screens are 316 stainless in 20, 60 and 100 mesh, all stocked, and 20 mesh ships unless you specify otherwise. Ten sizes are made: 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″, 3/4″, 1″, 1-1/4″, 1-1/2″, 2″, 2-1/2″ and 3″. Gasket and O-ring are PTFE. Working range is −20 °C to 180 °C at 800 WOG. Dimensions follow the standard Y strainer sheet.
Choose this build when the line is flushed on a schedule, or when the strainer sits somewhere that is awkward to reach with a wrench. For lines cleaned only occasionally, the standard plug version costs less and does the same filtering job.

Where it gets used
Every valve leak tested.
Each unit is checked for leakage before shipment.
What exactly is different from the standard Y strainer?
Only the drain. The plug at the bottom of the screen leg is replaced by a quarter-turn ball valve. Body, screen, threads, pressure rating and dimensions are identical.
Can I flush it without stopping the line?
Yes — that is the point of this build. Open the valve briefly, line pressure pushes the trapped debris out through the drain, then close it. For a full clean the cap still unscrews and the screen lifts out.
Which mesh should I choose?
20 mesh is the general-purpose screen and what we ship unless you specify. Go to 60 mesh ahead of flow meters and nozzles, and 100 mesh ahead of control valves and instruments. All three are stocked in 316.
What thread do you supply?
PT (taper) female threads from stock, 1/4″ to 3″. NPT and PF are made to order.
Should I take this or the plug version?
Take this one if the line is flushed on a schedule, or if the strainer sits where a wrench will not reach. Take the plug version if cleaning is occasional — it filters exactly the same.
