Threaded 45 Degree Elbow, Female PT Both Ends
Turns a threaded stainless line through 45 degrees with less flow resistance than a right-angle turn. Female PT taper threads on both ends, 202, 304 or 316 stainless steel, 1/8″ to 4″, Class 150.
Product overview
A threaded 45 degree elbow turns a pipe run through 45 degrees with a female taper thread on each end. You use it where the line has to change direction but a right-angle turn would cost you: engineering tables derived from Crane TP-410 put the equivalent length of a threaded 45° elbow at roughly 16 pipe diameters against about 30 for a threaded 90°, so each 45° you fit in place of a 90° takes about half the pressure drop out of that turn. Two 45° elbows with a short nipple between them make an offset that steps the line sideways and keeps it running the same way.
Ours is shell mold cast in our own plant in Taiwan in 202, 304 or 316 stainless steel and machined after casting. Sizes run 1/8″, 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″, 3/4″, 1″, 1-1/4″, 1-1/2″, 2″, 2-1/2″, 3″ and 4″. The threads are PT taper threads on both ends. PT is the Japanese designation for the 55° taper thread that BSPT, R and Rc also describe; it seals on the thread with tape or sealant. It is not the same as NPT, which is a 60° thread and should not be mated with it even where the nominal sizes look alike. If your line is NPT, tell us with the inquiry; NPT is made to order.
The pressure class is 150. On stainless threaded fittings that number is a class designation, not a limit of 150 psi; the working pressure depends on temperature and is set by the fitting standard the class belongs to. For water, air and general fluid lines at ordinary temperatures it carries more than the pipe around it.
304 covers water, air and general service. 316 carries molybdenum, which is what resists chloride pitting, so specify it where the fluid or the surroundings bring chlorides: brine, coastal sites, frequent washdown, most chemicals. Whichever grade you pick, keep the fittings around it in the same grade. This elbow matches our stainless steel hex pipe nipple and the rest of the threaded range, so one take-off list covers the whole line.

Applications
Every fitting checked for size and thread.
Each fitting is checked for dimensions and thread before shipment.
When do I use a 45 degree elbow instead of a 90?
When the line can afford a gentler turn. A 45° elbow carries roughly half the pressure drop of a threaded 90°, so use it for offsets, gradual direction changes and anywhere ahead of a pump. Use a 90° where the pipe has to turn a true right angle in one fitting.
What thread is it?
Female PT taper thread on both ends. PT is the same 55° taper thread as BSPT and Rc. If your line is NPT, tell us with the inquiry; NPT is made to order.
Should I choose 304 or 316?
304 for water, air and general service. 316 where chlorides are present: brine, coastal sites, washdown, most chemicals. Keep the whole threaded run in one grade.
Does Class 150 mean 150 psi?
No. Class 150 is a designation, not a pressure limit. The working pressure depends on temperature and is set by the fitting standard the class belongs to; at ordinary temperatures it is well above 150 psi.
What sizes can I order?
1/8″, 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″, 3/4″, 1″, 1-1/4″, 1-1/2″, 2″, 2-1/2″, 3″ and 4″. Mixed sizes in one order are fine; send the list and we quote it together.
Do you make the matching fittings?
Yes. Hex nipples, couplings and the rest of the threaded stainless range in the same grades and sizes. Send one take-off list and we quote it as one.
